We're in. Our new home away from home will never be the same again!
Some shows can be performed anywhere, and it works. Others, well, you need to be a little more specific. Size-wise, seating arrangement, sound, the right ceiling height to accommodate a 14 foot, I mean 10 feet pole. For HAIR, our theatre couldn't be more perfect! Being together as a Tribe on stage is one thing, but here we have a stage where the audience is, essentially, right on there with us! How perfect! So close in fact, that while we'll be smoking fake joints all night, everyone in the house will probably be getting fake contact highs as well!

Our first run at it in our first night in was interesting. (Missed ya HotDog, get well soon) Did it make lyrics to "The Bed" any easier,,,no. Did it help us in interacting with each other and getting comfortable with being "freaks" together?,,,definitely! (Still would have loved to hear Trish sing "My Conviction") Haven't checked out sliding down the pole yet. But just as well, I'd probably dig it too much and be real sad knowing, I'm not allowed to use it.

Did I mention the set is perfect too? D.D. has devised a beautiful space for us to work in. Goin out on a limb here, but gotta feeling, adding color will only make it more beautiful! (And bless you D.D...the "stamps" dialogue was great! It may have been too BIG in Kerouac's eyes,,,,which, hey, he's the Director, all the power, insight, vision and expertise is his, but I thought you captured the absurdity of what Mother does with her stamps really well...but hey,,,I'm just a schmo, I have no expertise.)
It is such a kookie scene though. I could see it being tough to find just the right direction in how to play it out. TA DA! That's what Scott's for!! It's funny too, last night as Arrow and I are reading our fake newspapers, we both thought of the same thing. We leaned back and pretty much said, at the same time, "We're probably not gonna have actual papers for this,,," Which, we're assuming is the case,,,,well, DUUUUH,,it's not like the mothers are moving around 3 friggin vacuum cleaners in the scene! But how I just loooove their unison humming! Well, now wait a tic,,, I get to whack Claudius in the head with one of those fake papers,,,,that should be interesting.,,,

Hope everyone is as excited, if not more, about being-in our new home away from home as me!

Wait, wait, wait!,,,once a week? I thought he meant once a month!

I just don't know if I have that much to say to fill up weekly entries. I'm really not that expressive. Anyone who knows me can attest. But I promise to do what I can. Maybe even include entries from Hubert's eyes,,,or even the eyes of Audience members. My eyes will probably be the best though,,,cause well,,,,they're always open wide,,,,,wide,,,,wide.........

I've also chosen my Tribe name,,,and although it's not as boss, as groovy or as super-goosey-gassy as Capt. Britannica,, it fits me,,,in more ways than one,,,Unfortunately the sound quality up there only gives a mere hint of justice to such a gem, but it was the best out there. The close-up shots of Roger are great! And the lyrics are some of the best ever recorded,,,,

And here I thought it was a show about rabbits....

Boy was I wrong! But definitely not wrong in telling Scott,,,"Sure, I'll be a hippy for the next 3 months." (I sorta kinda have a head start)
We've only just begun and why HAIR is much more of an EXPERIENCE than just another show is becoming more evident with each rehearsal.
The score is so much more amazing than I could have imagined! And the fact that we're getting the honor to perform HAIR 40 years after its initial run, I think is a testament to how incredible this show really is.

I mean, come on, any show with 6-headed parents is gonna be something pretty damn special!

What a cast too! Scott, with the exception of Zak, you really outdid yourself!

Getting to rehearse these tunes anywhere is pretty groovy to begin with,,,but in a church? That's another,,,, Which we had to do the other night. Some of the tunes, even in our primitive stages, sounded AMAZING!
And, hey,,,how bout a big hand for Scott's shoes? Squeaky McGee there got his feet wet while playing piano, so there was a little added accompaniment to some of the tunes.

And of course who hasn't dreamed of saying "Sodomy, felatio, cunnilingus, pederasty, masturbation and orgy" in a Church? Good for you Aaron,,,, You just don't find too many of those words in the hymnals these days,,,,

Blocking begins Monday and should be very interesting,,,,can't wait!
